Founder Journal #2

December 4th, 2023 | EDITION TWO

Welcome back to our second edition of The Founders Journal, If one thing is clear to us it’s that we are never going to be short of things to update you on in these journals.

The project seems to positively change and grow each week and we couldn’t be more excited to see so many of you joining the community and getting out into Wild Spaces, even as we turn a corner into colder months. What an epic bunch of adventurers you are!

Frosty Adventures

Unless you have been hiding under a rock (we don’t blame you if you have) you will have seen the cold snap that landed across the UK last weekend and boy did it bring some incredible changes to our Wild Spaces.

We have had the privilege of seeing a lot of our Wild Spaces change through the seasons over the last year and there is something truly wonderful about the environment that is created by these freezing conditions. We have both always been huge advocates for Winter Camping and some of our best adventurers have been snow and ice covered! It’s fair to say this year we were uncertain as to how many of you would venture out into these snow filled realms to claim a night under the stars, but how wrong were we! We could not be more stoked to see members journey out into Wild Space during the cold snap to experience the drastic changes that winter brings.

These changes that the snow and frost bring are truly remarkable, last weekend we have saw Wild Spaces come alive in a completely different way that took adventure and connection to the land to a whole new level. If you are thinking about trying a winter camp, we couldn’t encourage you more to take the leap and do it. We would love to hear from you if you are thinking about it, so shoot us a message and we are happy to help guide you to creating a winter adventure. Who’s in?

Wild Spaces

Over the last week we have been out on the road connecting with some wonderful people that have amazing pockets of land to share with you.

We feel privileged to have connected with these people as not only are the spaces they are caring for out of this world beautiful, the things they are doing to monitor, measure, regenerate and protect them are absolutely inspiring.

Alex found himself exploring a handful of stunning and varied spaces across mid-Devon, from high moorland with dramatic views, to hidden wild flower meadows. These spaces are unquestionably some of the most fascinating habitats that we have seen, rich in nature as well as history. The land has a wonderful story to tell that really unravels as you explore these spaces.

Tom spent late last week unlocking what can only be described as Wild Space paradise. Nestled between The Lake District and The Yorkshire Dales, these newly found spaces offer a beautiful backdrop with far reaching views and private crystal clear swimming spots right on your doorstep (they will honestly blow you away!). We are excited to see these spaces come online in the coming weeks and continue to be open year round offering awe inspiring changes with the seasons.

If you are chomping at the bit to explore any of these spaces before they are online then drop us a message!

Lights, camera, action!

Well, you won't find any fancy equipment here but we have been out and about filming a little more video content, shoot from the hip style. We have seen some great engagement from both our live sessions and informative video content we have put out so we are doubling down and have been out in Wild Spaces creating some video resources and some informative explanations. Each week will be using a ‘stroll in the woods’ to answer any of your questions you have on the project. So far we have pulled together some videos on the roots of the project right the way through to who the hosts of our Wild Spaces. If you have any questions about the project and want to hear from us just respond to this email, and for that matter send us any questions you have. We love hearing from you guys and you are all part of this community so your voice, opinion and questions matter hugely to us.

That’s all for now folks. See you next week. Happy Camping! Alex & Tom
