A Night at The Dod – Wild Camping at its Best The Dod is one of those places that reminds you just how wild and beautiful Northumberland really is. Getting there is part of the experience. The road gradually gives way to rough stone and pebbles, and with every mile the landscape feels more remote. The hills open out around you, the clouds seem to hang lower, and before long you've left the modern world behind. On arrival, there's parking at the farm, access to fresh water, an outdoor toilet and a lovely little bothy. From there you can follow the burn as it winds through the hills, or drive a little further and camp closer to your car if you prefer. There are plenty of options depending on how much walking you fancy. I stayed overnight, and it was everything I hoped for. The area is alive with wildlife – sheep grazing on the hillsides, rabbits darting through the grass, grouse calling in the distance and an incredible chorus of birdsong throughout the day. The only surprise was turning around during a walk to discover what seemed like an entire herd of cows had silently appeared behind my friend. Neither of us had heard a thing! It certainly gave us a laugh. The ground is uneven in places, so a decent pair of walking boots is well worth bringing, but that's all part of the charm. This isn't a perfectly manicured campsite; it's a place where you can properly immerse yourself in nature. If you're after peace, stunning scenery and a genuine taste of wild camping, I honestly can't recommend The Dod enough. It's one of the most tranquil places I've camped, and I'll definitely be returning.

We chose this site as our first foray into wild camping. What a great place it is and was. Right from the walk in to the arrival it's all so beautiful. Everything is worth it and we will 100% be camping here again in the future.

Great spot. Secluded feel, with everything you need nearby. Including the beach. Good route in but if you’re driving anything sporty thats slightly lower you will struggle. Great for kids. Ill be booking again.

Loved it! It was our first wild camping experience, and it was perfect. It felt remote, connected to nature, and it put your outside your comfort zone with no toilet or running water, no electric hook ups, just completely disconnected. But to ease you in to the wild camping experience, you drive straight up to it, theres a great covered area which became our kitchen/prep and storage area, theres walk around you for miles and a variety of wildlife, we even got a visit from a snake! Myself, My wife and our two boys aged 3 and 5 had a perfect time here, and we 100% will be back.
