Autumn Woodland Wild Camping

Rebecca’s Escape to Lingmere Wood

Camping in a woodland offers something completely different to the kind of camping most of us are used to. If you’ve wild camped before, chances are it’s been up on open moorland, or if you’ve stayed at a campsite, it’s probably been in a field. But woodlands bring something else entirely.

In autumn especially, they shift in a way that feels alive — the colours deepen, the air changes, and there’s a real sense of calm. It’s a brilliant time to camp, and we don’t often get to hear what those experiences are really like from our members.

So this week we caught up with Rebecca, one of our CampWild Champions, for a peek behind the curtain at what these woodland adventures can really feel like. We asked Rebecca a few quick questions after her escape to Lingmere Wood.

What do you love about autumn wild camping?

“There’s something really special about camping in autumn. The days still hold some warmth for an adventure, and the evenings turn chilly — wrapped up warm while you chat in the dark, faces lit by a lantern, gazing at the stars.”

What made this Wild Space so special?

“Its location! Just a short drive from the Norfolk coast, which meant beach walks, a sea swim, and the most stunning sunset under big Norfolk skies. We also loved meeting the hosts who told us about their regenerative farming and how they’re reducing chemical inputs.”

What made this camp memorable?

“The cooking! Halloumi and chickpea curry with home grown veggies, then pancakes for breakfast. Being able to drive up meant we could bring more gear — more creative cooking and a bit of comfort for the colder night.”

“Relaxing, adventuring, laughing. It’s the best medicine.”

The Wild Space: Lingmere Wood

Lingmere Wood sits just inland from the North Norfolk coast on a regenerative, family-run farm. The woodland itself feels tucked away from the world — enclosed, still, and full of life. You’ll have exclusive access to the space, so when you’re there, it’s just you, the trees, and the quiet.

The woodland floor is open enough to set up comfortably, with space for tents, hammocks, or a small camper. Parking is available close by, and in dry weather, you can usually get right up to the space. There’s no running water or facilities, so you’ll need to be self-sufficient, but that’s part of the charm — it’s a genuine wild camp, simple and peaceful.

The farm’s regenerative work has helped bring the area to life again. Birdsong carries through the trees, and it’s not unusual to spot deer or hares along the edges. The hosts are brilliant at sharing how they manage the land, and if you’re interested in rewilding or low-impact farming, you’ll walk away with plenty to think about.

Lingmere Wood is open all year and works just as well for a crisp winter stay as it does for a summer escape. Whether you’re looking for solitude, a quiet weekend with friends, or just somewhere to slow down, this is the kind of space that gives you time — and space — to breathe.

In contrast to more complicated sports simulators, Doodle Baseball is mostly focused on having fun. There are no rosters or statistics to manage in this game. It is more important to focus on timing your swing and having fun while you are on the trip.
