Pine Island

This is my 3rd camp wild location, I must say it has to be my favourite spot..it was stunning! Pine island certainly gives you the proper feeling of a wild camp without the worries of been moved on. And this is what I really enjoy about the locations of camp wild. You park in a Lay Bay at the top of a famers track and takes about 35 minutes to get to the location, all downhill too which is a bonus. The route card is easy to follow, once to you get to the open field there is signs for a footpath which takes you up the hill, but keep to the right, there is no visible path and with it been the summer months the grass and nettles are very high so there is a chance you could get stung. We couldn't find a narrow section to cross the beck without getting your feet wet, but once on pine island your soggy feet are soon forgotten about as the island is stunning, we found the perfect spot for 3 tents, right in the sunshine and next to the little river. After some lovely food and a few cheeky beverages, we all slept like logs. I will definitely be visiting again. Remember leave no trace like you would on a proper wild camp. Five out of five stars from my group.

Bonus points for spotting a barn owl swooping ahead of me while I explored the various pitching up spots. A brewery tour rounded off this visit very nicely!

Lovely, very convenient little slice! It feels like very personal spot with a couple of sheep for neighbours and yellow wagtails visiting the meadow, but also people come and go from the car park or cycle past, which is nice in case you don't want to feel too isolated. I mapped a circular hike straight from the space incorporating forest, river, resevoir, Waun Fach peak and hill crest, and of course, more sheep!

These are spaces in nature, almost entirely untouched. In fact some have seen only a handful of people in a generation. The lack of humans have ensured these spaces provide some of the most intimate experiences in the wild you can find now in England. All within a stone's throw of the life we all know.

A HANDSHAKE OF TRUST & RESPECT

When we set out on our CampWild project, we knew it wasn’t going to be easy. As it currently stands, only 8% of England has a right to roam & less than 0.2% has the right to wild camp. But with over 60,000,000 acres in the UK and with now well over 60,000,000 people living in them - where do we even start in our project to revolutionise access to nature?

The answer. Investing (a lot of) blood, sweat and pennies into building the infrastructure that puts our hosts first. Every little detail has been thought of to build a bridge of trust between our community and landowners, so they they can unlock their gates for the first time to the people who want to escape to the wild.

Our bespoke booking system, Code of Conduct, Snap In-Snap Out process, focus on education and passion for conservation puts a stake in the ground that our hosts can trust. We have already met dozens of incredible landowners who are revolutionising access to nature and we cannot wait to see how our network develops over the coming years.
