The Perch

We start our campwild journey with a booking at The Perch. This promised to be an unforgettable experience with amazing views from the top and it definitely delivered - we could see for miles - all the way to Solway Firth and the Lake District beyond this. The route up to the perch is hard - no real path and the ground is full of tufty grass which makes the going very slow but the view from the top made up for this. There is a cairn the top which was the only shelter - we cooked in this to stay out of the wind and got the tents up quickly so we had somewhere to shelter from the rain. Although we weren’t lucky with the weather )strong wind and rain) we did have a beautiful sunset and sunrise. My advice - pack only the bare essentials - we initially were going to for 2 nights but the driving wind and forecast of stronger winds int eh second night send up running for a last minute air bnb booking. This is no reflection on the location - more our hardiness and perseverance!!! It was an unforgettable experience and I would consider going back in less windy / wet conditions next time but I guess you can’t always plan for this! Overall as long as you are up for a tough walk to the perch the views and location more than make up for this!

Heggs Basecamp

We spent two nights at the Heggs basecamp. We were two adults and two children aged 7 and 12. Kids loved making fire, hammocks and the views. The steam was also a huge attraction for skimming stones. My daughter and I hugely appreciated the both and it’s throughly thought out cooking facilities. And the fact we did not need to carry in drinking water. It was our first experience of camping with the kids and we all loved it.Thank you so much Liz for making it such a memorable experience by sharing such a wonderful space. Very grateful.

We spent a night here in our campervan, with 3 kids, lots to see and explore, including the stream. Beautiful views all the way down to the sea, so peaceful and we were lucky enough to have horses visit us at breakfast time. Would really recommend. Thanks for having us. Jane

Nature

These are spaces in nature, almost entirely untouched. In fact some have seen only a handful of people in a generation. The lack of humans have ensured these spaces provide some of the most intimate experiences in the wild you can find now in England. All within a stone's throw of the life we all know.

A HANDSHAKE OF TRUST & RESPECT

When we set out on our CampWild project, we knew it wasn’t going to be easy. As it currently stands, only 8% of England has a right to roam & less than 0.2% has the right to wild camp. But with over 60,000,000 acres in the UK and with now well over 60,000,000 people living in them - where do we even start in our project to revolutionise access to nature?

The answer. Investing (a lot of) blood, sweat and pennies into building the infrastructure that puts our hosts first. Every little detail has been thought of to build a bridge of trust between our community and landowners, so they they can unlock their gates for the first time to the people who want to escape to the wild.

Our bespoke booking system, Code of Conduct, Snap In-Snap Out process, focus on education and passion for conservation puts a stake in the ground that our hosts can trust. We have already met dozens of incredible landowners who are revolutionising access to nature and we cannot wait to see how our network develops over the coming years.
