Winter Lakes Campout

Welcome to Winter Lakes
Friday 29 – Sunday 31 January 2027 · Furnace Brook, Sussex

Most people hibernate in January. We’re heading to the lake!

For one weekend in the depths of winter, we’re taking over the whole of Furnace Brook, a stunning farm in Sussex, where the team are restoring the land for nature. Expect frosty mornings, roaring campfires and wooden shelters to gather in when the cold bites. There’s a wood-fired sauna and cold plunges in the lake, and yoga on an island lit by candles. Between sessions, the Furnace Brook team will take you out on nature walks and talks to show you the rewilding work happening all around you.

We’ll cook together over the fire on Friday night. On Saturday, we hand it over to the experts and you get cooked for! Breakfast, coffee, beer and soft drinks are all on us, and you’ll head home with a goody bag and your Winter Lakes patch. It’s two nights and three days of getting properly cold and properly warm again, with good people and plenty of stars.

At a glance:

Leave: Sunday, after midday

Winter Lakes Campout

Furnace Brook sits in the heart of the High Weald, a protected landscape just outside Hailsham in East Sussex. It’s 80 acres of lakes, meadows, trees and old farm buildings, and it’s being brought back to life by the Furnace Brook team, who are restoring the land and water for wildlife and the local community.

For the weekend, the whole farm is ours. You’ll pitch up in the meadow or around the lake, with the island at the centre of it all. By day you’ll explore the land with the people restoring it. By night it’s lanterns, fire and frosty skies.

We joined the cookout campout in October. Loved the location, foraging walk and sauna plus plunge pool. The communal dinner was fab too, lots of lovely people and everyone was so friendly. Perfect balance of organised activities (which were optional) and free time, will definitely be back next year.

One of the best weekends I’ve had in years. Good people, fireside food, and a reminder of how good it feels to just slow down.
