A nice place to camp with great facilities, friendly owners and ducks. Nice views from the top of the field, quiet and just about private enough, though you are a little overlooked by nearby houses. The field is on quite a slope and we found it hard to find a spot without grass hummocks that was flat enough for a 2 man tent.

My son and I really enjoyed our stay in Hayes Wood this August. We were lucky with the weather and had both beautiful sunset and sunrise. Being inside the wood, with the light streaming through in a pretty magical way. The instructions were clear, and the spot was clean and clear. As a site that gets used by schools (I believe), it's quite an easy camp and well set up with a fire pit and some logs set out to sit around. There is also a compost toilet that might benefit from a few instructions for those not so in the know ... but it was pretty clean and convenient! And, as always, it's a treat and privilege to have the place to ourselves. Very peaceful too (apart from the odd combine harvester working hard and the occasion plane overhead!). An overnight solo stopover at Milehouse Meadow, well the weather wasn't on my side but that didn't stop me, I arrived in the afternoon and parked up in Travis on the right side hoping to be sheltered from the wind and rain, I put the awning up just in time before the heavens opened and dumped the rain. I sat listening and waiting patiently enjoying the sound of the drops hitting the canvas and feeling the gusts of wind rock the tent, by 6pm the clouds parted, and the sun came out. Whilst preparing my dinner the owner and his son came out to the field with their dogs and happily included Badger my collie, in the fun and games of fetch and probably kindly checking I didn’t get blown away. The sun went down, and the night sky became filled with stars and not a sound interrupted the silence. It was probably the best night’s sleep I’ve had in the van so far. By morning the sun was shining, I prepped my breakfast, and Badger went to play once more with the owner and his dogs before I packed away the awning and headed off. What a lovely spot, with chickens and rabbits kept safe in the field, polite hosts and friendly children, freedom to explore, a place I will return too no matter the weather.
