This is an incredibly special place. A short walk from where you can park your car, the moment you step into the wild space, you know you are somewhere incredible. I camped on the grassy banks by a meander in the river in a beautiful glade, where the sun poked through the trees as it set, creating the loveliest light and I could dip down into the river for a refreshing dip after climbing Pen Y Fan. In the mornings, the sun created small sunspots on the rocks by the river which were the perfect places to sit and read my book and the sound of the rushing water at night was soothing. There are plenty of other places to camp at this site - if you don’t want to be so close to the water, you can walk further along into the woods and you can climb over a section of the fence to find the waterfall which is beautiful and has the perfect plunge pool for swimming in. Aneriran, the farmer whose land this site is on, popped down to see me one morning and was the lovliest man - if you can’t find the waterfall, or work out how to get down, he will show you. Other than that, I was completely on my own and it was glorious. I’m certain this will be a wild space I will come back to.

We have just returned from a night's camp at the amazing Hafod Berwyn. This place really is something special! It felt remote and is situated in a stunning area of natural beauty. There was a choice of places to pitch up, we ended up plumping for the beautiful little shaded meadow. We took our camp chairs and moved over to the more open area in front of the house to enjoy the last of the evening sun and look out across the hills, just bliss! Our host Jonathan was very helpful with great communication before our stay, and was able to make great recommendations on local swim spots as well as providing a little more info about the site. We have to say, it was a real luxury to have a flushing toilet and a hot shower on site! It felt like having our own private campsite. If you are looking for a retreat away from it all, that offers an immersive experience in nature, whilst also providing the home comforts that make your camp that bit more enjoyable, Hafod Berwyn is the place for you! We will be back for sure, and would like to do a longer trip next time.

Amazing spot, very secluded with lots of wildlife. The altar was quirky and it was nice to sleep raised off the woodland floor. Craftsmanship was impressive. Walking was easy and well maintained route (once we eventually found it!) the what 3 words to the site takes you away from the woods to a road which wasn’t useful and the route on OS Maps wouldn’t load but on the other hand it was an adventure finding it, despite realising on our walk out that it was actually a very short walk back to the car park!

RECONNECT WITH NATURE

20230922_111546.jpg

These are spaces in nature, almost entirely untouched. In fact some have seen only a handful of people in a generation. The lack of humans have ensured these spaces provide some of the most intimate experiences in the wild you can find now in England. All within a stone's throw of the life we all know.

A HANDSHAKE OF
TRUST & RESPECT

When we set out on our CampWild project, we knew it wasn’t going to be easy. As it currently stands, only 8% of England has a right to roam & less than 0.2% has the right to wild camp. But with over 60,000,000 acres in the UK and with now well over 60,000,000 people living in them - where do we even start in our project to revolutionise access to nature?

The answer. Investing (a lot of) blood, sweat and pennies into building the infrastructure that puts our hosts first. Every little detail has been thought of to build a bridge of trust between our community and landowners, so they they can unlock their gates for the first time to the people who want to escape to the wild.

Our bespoke booking system, Code of Conduct, Snap In-Snap Out process, focus on education and passion for conservation puts a stake in the ground that our hosts can trust. We have already met dozens of incredible landowners who are revolutionising access to nature and we cannot wait to see how our network develops over the coming years.
