Spent just one night here and it was blissful. I camped in a small tent near the lake and felt so secluded being surrounded by the woodland. There are two more clearly marked places for camping (Sheona and Neil have really helpfully put small CampWild logos on both the gated entrance to the field where you park and at the camping spots), one more open and one much more in the trees. There is also the addition of a handy compost loo. The lake was huge! Much bigger than I expected, with a few ducks to keep me company and made for a very welcome swim after a long, hot hike. Loads of duckweed, but it moves out of your way easily enough :) Plenty of insects (expected and mentioned in the details) so definitely bring bug spray. And at night, the sounds of so much wildlife - bird calls that I hadn't heard before, sounds of foxes and deer, and all sorts of rustling in the undergrowth. Loads of blackberries to forage around the lake too! Really lovely spot, perfect for peace and tranquility.

I've stayed here a couple of times and it is such a beautiful space and the Furnace Brook team are amazing, such a great project. You have the beautiful lake (which you can swim in) and the pitch right on the waters edge, also as a bonus there are toilets and showers and just a couple of minutes easy walk from the parking area. Once it gets dark, super clear star filled skies and tranquility... Sometimes disturbed by the resident owl and some very honking geese!

While not exactly wild camping, I love this spot as it offers seclusion, peace and gorgeous surroundings. Plenty of lovely walks and even a couple of pubs round the corner. Thanks for a great stay, will be returning.

RECONNECT WITH NATURE

20230922_111546.jpg

These are spaces in nature, almost entirely untouched. In fact some have seen only a handful of people in a generation. The lack of humans have ensured these spaces provide some of the most intimate experiences in the wild you can find now in England. All within a stone's throw of the life we all know.

A HANDSHAKE OF
TRUST & RESPECT

When we set out on our CampWild project, we knew it wasn’t going to be easy. As it currently stands, only 8% of England has a right to roam & less than 0.2% has the right to wild camp. But with over 60,000,000 acres in the UK and with now well over 60,000,000 people living in them - where do we even start in our project to revolutionise access to nature?

The answer. Investing (a lot of) blood, sweat and pennies into building the infrastructure that puts our hosts first. Every little detail has been thought of to build a bridge of trust between our community and landowners, so they they can unlock their gates for the first time to the people who want to escape to the wild.

Our bespoke booking system, Code of Conduct, Snap In-Snap Out process, focus on education and passion for conservation puts a stake in the ground that our hosts can trust. We have already met dozens of incredible landowners who are revolutionising access to nature and we cannot wait to see how our network develops over the coming years.
