Okay, this is a big one, like… genuinely a “we can’t quite believe this is real either” kind of big one.

For the first time ever, CampWild has its very own bothy.

Not just a listing, not just somewhere on the platform. An actual, fully CampWild-operated bothy(!)


And it is INCREDIBLE. I mean talk about going out with a bang - Peppercombe might be one of the most exciting places we have ever added to the CampWild network of wild, rather damn beautiful spaces in nature.

Hidden away in a steep wooded valley on the North Devon coast, directly connected into the South West Coast Path, Peppercombe Bothy feels less like “accommodation” and more like stepping into another pace of life entirely.

You descend down through the trees, the signal disappears, the sea starts getting louder and suddenly your priorities shift dramatically towards:

  • weather

  • walking

  • cooking outside

  • sea swims

  • drying salty kit

  • sitting around a fire

  • and wondering why life doesn’t always feel this simple

What Is Peppercombe Bothy?

Peppercombe Bothy is a simple stone shelter tucked into the valley above the North Devon coastline near Bideford. It actually used to be a pig sty, genuinely.


And when we say simple, we mean simple in the best possible way.

This is not glamping, oh no. Nobody is handing you a hot tub and a prosecco flute.

It is a real bothy, designed for people who want to feel connected to the landscape around them, not separated from it.

Inside you will find:

  • Raised sleeping platforms

  • Running water and sink

  • A functioning toilet

  • Small prep/worktop area

  • Space to cook, rest and reset

Outside:

  • Fire pit

  • Bench seating

  • Woodland surroundings

  • Atlantic coastline nearby

  • Wild swimming spots below the cliffs

  • Direct access into the South West Coast Path

Importantly, it doesn’t feel polished or over-curated - it feels real, and we love that.


A New Chapter For CampWild

Peppercombe Bothy marks a huge milestone for CampWild.

Previously operated by the National Trust, Peppercombe was one of the most successful bothies in their network and it now enters a new chapter as the very first fully CampWild-operated bothy and the first bothy to carry the CampWild name.

For us, this is much bigger than one stay location.

It is the beginning of CampWild Bothies, a growing network of simple shelters in extraordinary wild places around the UK.

Our aim is not to soften adventure or turn bothies into luxury stays! Quite the opposite, instead we want to protect what makes bothies special while making them easier for more people to discover, understand and experience.

Because bothies should not feel reserved for a tiny group of people who already know all the unwritten rules, miles into the middle of the highlands.

They should feel like a doorway into the wild.


A new Wild Trail is coming...

From Peppercombe Bothy to Dean Rainforest and back.

Launching summer 2026, this brand new multi-day & self-guided CampWild trail experience will take you from your hidden coastal bothy basecamp deep into the heart of one of the UK’s last remaining Atlantic rainforests, just a mile inland from the South West Coast Path.

Think sea swims, ancient moss-covered woodland, salty kit drying outside the bothy, campfires, slow mornings and two completely different wild landscapes connected together into one unforgettable journey.

Night one beneath the rainforest canopy - Night two back at Peppercombe Bothy overlooking the Atlantic coastline. Primal, wild & deeply immersive.

Honestly, we think this is going to become one of the most sought-after nature experiences in the UK and we are ridiculously excited to launch it in just a few weeks time, ready for summer 2026.
