Can I Take My Dog into a Wild Space?

This is a question asked almost every other day by our growing community, and rightly so—we bloody love dogs! Alex and Tom both have one, members of the family that can be a bloody nightmare and joy to be around all at the same time!

Our K9 pals can be amazing companions when camping wild, offering that extra bit of comfort, company, and safety, especially when going solo. It is why one of the first questions we explore with every new Wild Space host is whether dogs are welcome or not.

And why wouldn't they be?!

At CampWild, access to private land is built via a bridge of trust, understanding, and responsibility. We, as a community, listen to our hosts and respect how they live, work, and care for the land—and in some cases, their livelihoods or the rare species that live there come first.

62% of our 152 Wild Spaces accept dogs, welcoming them as part of the adventure, whereas 38% do not.

Of that 38%, over three-quarters of the cases are due to livestock 🐮. Unlike a stroll through farmland with doggo under close observation, you are exploring and camping out in a Wild Space for 24 hours or more. This means a dog will be on the land longer and therefore may pose a greater disturbance to livestock. We fully respect our hosts in these circumstances and so does our amazing community.

As we grow and scale the network of Wild Spaces over the coming years, there will always be a place for and spaces that welcome dogs on CampWild adventures. At the same time, we will continue to foster that critical bridge of respect to the wonderful people who live and work the land—to ensure we enable access to nature for everyone far into the future.

If you have any other questions about dogs in Wild Spaces, get in touch! We are here to listen and help.
